The Serenity Prayer

What a year it’s been. I have to say it’s been one of the hardest years of my life. I have had hard years before. The early years of raising my daughter as a solo parent were tough. But this year—whew—it’s been a doozy. I don’t like to talk about it much, and I only share in order to bring some solace to the fact that life is hard sometimes—and sometimes it’s hard for a while. Possibly, you are also going through something hard, and hopefully, you won’t feel alone.

I have an unpredictable health challenge that shows up unexpectedly and knocks me down for days at a time. It’s an inflammatory condition that has been hard to get under control. I am still in the "figuring it all out" stage, although I have learned a lot. I find the unpredictability of this possibly the hardest part. The nervous system craves predictability in order to feel secure and safe. So, I try to focus on the things I can predict and control: my breath, my thoughts, who I spend my time with, what I eat, and how I spend my days.

I have learned that simplifying my life has been key. There is power in acceptance. There is also power in action and in knowing when to rest.

2025 is almost here, and I am ready for change.

If you are navigating a challenging season, remember that even in the hardest times, there is light to be found—in small joys, in moments of connection, and in your own resilience. You are stronger than you know, and every step forward, no matter how small, is a victory.

May this year bring us all a renewed sense of well-being, peace within, and the healing we all crave.
