I have just returned from my annual retreat in Chacala, Mexico. Another one for the books.
We dove deep into reconnecting with ourselves — learning to trust and listen to our own voice. Through breathwork, journaling, fascia exploration, neuro drills, and strength work, we supported one another on an inward journey.
Because it is only through knowing ourselves that we can truly connect with others.
Together, we moved through the unfolding events in Mexico with as much calm and awareness as possible. We built resilience not by ignoring what was happening, but by staying present with it — together.
We began and ended our retreat with this poem by David Whyte.
Start Close In
Start close in, don’t take the second step or the third, start with the first thing close in, the step you don’t want to take.
Start with the ground you know, the pale ground beneath your feet, your own way of starting the conversation.
Start with your own question, give up on other people’s questions, don’t let them smother something simple.
To find another’s voice, follow your own voice, wait until that voice becomes a private, intimate ear listening to another.
Start right now take a small step you can call your own don’t follow someone else’s heroics, be humble and focused, start close in, don’t mistake that other for your own.
Start close in, don’t take the second step or the third, start with the first thing close in, the step you don’t want to take.
Please take a look at some of the beautiful images below that our incredible photographer captured this year — Rosei Skipper. They hold the spirit of the week so well.
What’s Next
Inside the membership this month, we’re diving into March Matness — exploring the Pilates repertoire alongside muscle mapping to deepen understanding of the body and the method.
Our monthly live call will be March 15 from 9:00–9:30am, where I’ll be answering your questions about the Pilates Method.
If you’d like to join us, now is the time.
In love and movement, Lila
